Earlier the wealthy Nigeria Senator Ike Ekweremadu was arrested on June 21 (2022) as they arrived at Heathrow Airport following the case of organ trafficking of a Nigeria street trader.
Ike Ekweremadu case in the UK
He has been on trial, with his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, and doctor Obinna Obeta who was a middleman to the would-be kidney donor.
After trials in the court in the UK, Ike Ekweremadu was jailed for 10 years and 8 months, his wife Beatrice Ekweremadu for 4 years and six months, and doctor Obinna Obeta (middle man) was jailed for 10 years.

They were found guilty at a UK court for plotting to arrange the travel of a young Nigerian street trader with the plan of exploiting his body organ.
The reason for the plan to exploit the young man (street trader) of his kidney was for Ekweremadu’s daughter Sonia who is 25-year-old and suffering from severe kidney disease.
About the Nigerian Street Trader in Ike Ekweremadu’s Case
According to the report, David Nwamini was a Lagos Street trader and the would-be kidney donor in the case that sent to jail the Nigerian Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice Ekweremadu, and doctor Obinna Obeta for organ trafficking.
The Lagos street trader (David Nwamini) is a 21-year-old Nigerian, who saw himself in the UK, without funding his way. According to what he said in the court during the Ike Ekweremadu organ trafficking case trial.
He said, his dream was to be in the UK someday, but he never believed it would happen so soon, he added that he used to “pray every day” for the opportunity of travelling to the UK to make a living or study.
How He (David) Got to the UK
He said to “make it happen” when they meet him and talked to him about the opportunity to work in the UK he agreed because that has been his dream which he never thought would happen soon.
He said also, that he consented to the medical tests in Lagos and also to meet with doctors in London, believing that the medical tests and the meeting with doctors were necessary for his study visa to the UK during the Covid-19 pandemic.
What Happened When He (David) Was Taking To UK
According to the 21-year-old street trader, he said, he got to know that the intended plan before they left Nigeria to UK is not the plan they had for him, rather he realized what was planned when the doctors at the Royal Free Hospital in London began discussing with him about kidney transplant.
He was asked: If you were told about the Organ transplant deal before now would you have agreed to that?
He said NO! Stating in the court that he wouldn’t agree. Saying: “My body is not for sale.”
He further said that “He (Dr Obina Obeta) did not inform him (David) that the reason why he brought him to London was for an organ (kidney) transplant.
The victim added: ‘I’m scared, can’t return to Nigeria’, as he begs to stay in the UK.
“I worry for my safety in Nigeria. Those people can do anything. I think they could arrest me or kill me in Nigeria.”
“My plan now is to work and to get an education and to play football,” The Lagos street trader (David) said, adding that he does not want to claim compensation from the “bad people” as it would be “cursed and bad luck”.
Final Thought on Ike Ekweremadu’s Case
It is not unlawful to donate a kidney, it becomes an offense when there is a reward or the donor wasn’t sought for consent, or is misinformed.
