GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION AND ITS EFFECT

          Lying around the border fringes of Ekiti and Kwara state is a thick forest region, hilly and rugged which render the place a suitable refuge from enemies. The town Ayede lies somewhere around this region, it is about 50 kilometer from Ado-Ekiti and 25 kilometers to OtunEkiti which is a border town between the two.
          The town is one thousand and eight hundred meters above the sea level with an equatorial type of climate. Since the vegetation of the area would have it, farming and hunting were the people’s chief occupations. And they plant such food and cash crops like cocoa, cotton, beans, plantain, yam, maize and oil palm to mention afew.
          As one would naturally expect from setting combatants, the choice of their settlement, like Ayede, was usually a formidable environment. The people of Ayede were strong and rather belligerent despite their possession of the inherent Ekiti meekness. However, it is note worthy to mention that since the settlement on the land of Ayede the town and its people have not witnessed any external aggression.
          To a large extent the town could be referred to as being a self-sufficient settlement. The town’s location is within close shot of Ekiti and Kwara state borders. Inevitably the art customs and traditions of the people cannot but reflect an harmonization of the traits belonging to the two states. However, they are basically Ekiti. Like most other Yoruba towns, Ayede has an enviable well-defined pattern of social organization. The landscape and vegetation of the town compel its people to live together in organization. It will be an unpardonable over sight not to acknowledge the fact that the geographical location of the town with immense nature barriers. Her administration was more often than not very stables she has never witnessed any serious political disharmony. The people were strong and were always ready to defend their territory when ever need arose.
          It will also be suitable to mention here that the political stability and internal security that she enjoyed encouraged the progress and the development of arts and commerce.
The location also fell on the trade route (that fed the popular Ifaki market) connecting Ekiti and Ilorin lands.
In term of communications, the geographical location of the towns has an adverse effect on her, being placed along the fringe of Ondo and Kwara states due to its thick forest.
Generally speaking, the development of the town has been very adversely affected by the geographical location of the town. Since it falls too far in land from the start centers of political decisions and activities.The rugged hill that abound within. This geographical location is also an impediment to road construction.
Hence, the very factors that influenced the choice that settlement and which fended it safe from eternal incursion thus political, social and economic, stability and development have now unlike during the yester years, become her source of political social and economic backwardness.
The effect of the geographical location becomes more pronounced with the mass important orientation of the nation’s economy which the make people to leave their villages and towns for cities near to the port areas.
Although, the town now has electricity and pipe borne water but factors that usually encouraged the establishment of various industries.
And with the presence of a bank and post office along side other influence of modernity that is gradually fluttering into the town. It is hoped that soon the educated indigence of the town would start to establish industries there. At present, there is only one major industry there.
